Accelerated Reading Policy
1. You may read any AR book. I encourage you to read the Truman and Gateway books to be eligible to attend author visits and go on the field trip to the Literature Festival in Warrensburg. Seven books must be read from either list and AR tests must be taken and passed with a 80% before Dec. 20.
2. Don’t read a book you have taken an AR test on. The system will not allow you to retake the tests and the teacher can’t give you a grade. No excuses are accepted and the grade is a zero, so be sure to check whether or not you have already taken a test on the novel. Also check to make sure there is an AR test for any book you read prior to reading the book.
3. Books should be age and level appropriate.
4. Broaden your horizons and read different authors and various genres.
5. Most reading will take place outside of school but always bring your book to class. Use any free time in class to read your book.
6. You need to earn 10 AR points every four weeks. That is 20 points each quarter. If you don’t earn your AR points by the dates below, you will receive a ZAP.
7. You may take an AR test any time during the grade period, but there are deadline dates. These are listed below as progress reports and the ends of each quarter.
First Quarter-Progress Report Thursday, Sept. 12 End of Quarter Thursday, Oct. 10
Second Quarter-Progress Report Thursday, Nov. 14 End of Quarter Thursday, Dec. 19
Third Quarter-Progress Report Thursday, Feb. 6 End of Quarter Thursday, March 14
Fourth Quarter-Progress Report Thursday, Apr. 10 End of Quarter Thursday, May 8
Don’t wait until the last day. You will forget details, and there will be a lot of students trying to take a test.
8. You must take the AR test in the ELA classroom. Before you take a test, sign up with the teacher, so there is a record that you took the test in the classroom. Do not print any of your tests. Grades will be taken from the database.
